San Diego Last March

OK, so I went to San Diego last March. Um, yeah, this is a super belated post. But I’m doing it anyway, because I can. Also, who doesn’t enjoy scenic photos? πŸ˜› I have no idea what I’d do with the photos if I didn’t share them anyway, so you guys are in luck.

photo 1My last 2 OOTD posts, (theΒ business daytime lookΒ and theΒ dinner nighttime look) were meant to reel you guys in to try to figure out what I did in San Diego last March. Of course, those of you who know me well know exactly why I was there. For those of you who don’t know me well enough, let me tell you a bit about the trip.
To tell you about the trip, I have to start with a little background. From Aug.-Dec. 2013, I was the executive editor for the Spartan Daily newspaper at San Jose State University. I went to San Diego in March 2014 to attend the Associated Collegiate Press‘s (ACP) National College Journalism Convention (NCJC). I was on a panel of speakers about converging a university newsroom. I also attended the California College Media Association‘s (CCMA) banquet awards dinner.

I didn’t go to San Diego alone. I went with my newspaper adviser and 3Β other Spartan Daily members: (Please excuse the next 3 horribly blurry iPhone photos. This post isn’t all like that, I swear!)

photo 2ChristianaΒ and I were reporters together. She then became managing editor when I was exec. She was my rock ❀ This girl is talented as ever and I know she’ll go far in life because she’s so determined and dedicated.

photo 1Carolyn was a photographer when I was a reporter. Then she became photo editor when I was exec πŸ™‚ She’s the best πŸ˜€ And she was my honorary OOTD photographer while we were in San Diego, haha. She also drove the whole time. So I’d say she’s kind of a beast πŸ˜‰

photo 5Β Codi was a photographer when I was a reporter. This girl has talent! πŸ™‚ It was so much fun getting to know her better during this trip. If I’m ever lost or ever have questions about anything, I’m sure Codi will have answers ready for me πŸ™‚

Before the NCJC convention and the CCMA awards, we did sight seeing! Duh πŸ™‚ Our tour guide was our newspaper adviser, who was born and raised in San Diego! Lucky us πŸ™‚ Here are some photos from the super long day:

photo 1They had an adventure and I tagged along.

photo 1photo 2Outside our hotel when it was finally sunny. (Plus random passerby.)
photo 3Christiana and I were taking a little break outside. We had a long day ahead of us! First, we had the morning and part of the afternoon free to go to workshops of our choosing. We sat through a couple of interesting ones.
photo 4These were the name badges we wore all day for the conference. After the workshops, we got ready for our panel! Can you believe it? It was technically OUR panel! We got to speak about how to converge a university newsroom. It was amazing! We were all SO nervous. In the end, we seriously rocked it. I’m so proud of all of us πŸ™‚ I’m glad we had an audience who understood us! They were students and professors also struggling through convergence! Oh, what an experience πŸ™‚ Definitely one I won’t forget! And how many times can you say you were a panelist before you graduated college? Haha what a special moment! We have our newspaper adviser to thank for that one πŸ™‚
photo 3Selfie in the bathroom! Classic πŸ˜› Lol this was during the CCMA awards banquet! It’s kind of the main reason we went to San Diego, besides speaking at the panel. We got nominated for awards! πŸ˜› And we won awards too!photo 3 copyphoto 2Look at us and all our awards! OK, so they weren’t all OURS individually…Some people won individual awards and some awards were for the newspaper as a whole. Either way, in the end we were winners!

In the end, this one was my favorite. The Spartan Daily (newspaper as a whole) won first place in our division for best special section for our food special issue. This issue was during the semester I was exec. I was so so proud! It should’ve had “Spartan Daily” on the award instead of these individual names because it really was a team effort. But I’m so glad we won. We deserved it. πŸ™‚
photo 4Sorry for such a small photo below, but it was a cropped screenshot from my phone. Whoops! Anyway, it’s a screenshot of comments from one (or more?) judge(s)! I guess you can say I was a proud mama πŸ˜‰photo 4Overall, San Diego was a good trip away from home. Yes, it could’ve gone a lot better, but it’ll be a trip we won’t forget.Β photo 5Girls, I know you’re feelin’ happy!
