NY, Canada, and Fashion Week, Oh My!

I went to NY for a week! Here’s a quick recap of events…

I stayed in Rochester for a couple of days, and this was apparently what I just HAD to try while I was there. It’s a dish called The Garbage Plate. It doesn’t look appetizing but I’m sure it is if you’re super starving or super drunk. It’s just layers of random food items. It was edible. That’s all I’ll say.

IMG_8387The Syracuse University campus was absolutely gorgeous! I spent the majority of my time in Newhouse 1, 2 & 3, and I fell in LOVE. ❀
IMG_8391Thanks for your hospitality, Janet, Johanna, Dianna and Patrick! πŸ™‚ You made my visit unforgettable.

Took a day trip with my family up to Canada. Saw Mr. Jack Daniels along the way:
IMG_8448There were a bunch of these Tim Hortons. Reminded me of Dunkin’ Donuts.
IMG_8402I saw Toronto’s Chinatown, ate yummy food, and got some sun and exercise.

Unlike most Vietnamese sandwich shops in the Bay Area, this one in Toronto had all their sandwich fixings piled on high!
IMG_8409They also kept their bread in an interesting area…

The scenic view at Niagara Falls was absolutely beautiful! We saw it all from the Canada side.

The first thing I did when I got to NYC was go to an Academy of Art University open house.
IMG_8464Thanks to Melissa, for meeting up with me and telling me more about the school! πŸ™‚

I had ramen at this cool little place called Totto Ramen. Super busy, but super yummy! (Below you see me and my mama.)
We sat at the bar, which had front row seats into their open kitchen! So awesome seeing food being made right in front of us! the cooks were awesome.IMG_8465

I went to see Columbia University. Super gorgeous campus as well.

I had SO many macarons ❀ I was in heaven! Haha I went to many different bakeries and cafes and got a macaron at practically every stop.
IMG_8471 IMG_8472 IMG_8621IMG_8611The macarons at Laduree were my favorite by far. Oh, and the croissant there? Ooo! To die for ❀
We walked through Central Park a few times to see different things, and just to get exercise.
Here’s the fountain from Enchanted:

The trip to the Statue of Liberty was awesome. I was so grateful for the ferry ride! Thank goodness for wind and cool air haha

This is the view of NYC from the island where the Statue of Liberty is located:

One of my absolute favorite parts of this NYC trip was being able to go to a show during New York Fashion Week!
IMG_8640I mean, I was just so excited to even see the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week building!
IMG_8511I brought my mama with me πŸ™‚

IMG_8521IMG_8554I went to the AAU fashion show πŸ™‚ THANK YOU, AAU SCHOOL OF FASHION! ❀
IMG_8551This was us entering the venue trying to find our seats!
IMG_8530Us waiting for the show to start!
I seriously can’t believe all the items I saw were designed by students! Props to you, AAU fashion designers πŸ™‚ I couldn’t get any amazing photos from my seat because of the angle and lighting 😦 But oh, my goodness! What a great show! I’m so excited I was able to experience New York Fashion Week! I hope I can go again next time, and I hope I can go as press next time, too! πŸ˜‰

We walked about 20% of the Brooklyn Bridge haha
IMG_8557 IMG_8587The architecture was amazing to see.
IMG_8558My favorite part was how the bridge was split into one pedestrian lane and one bicycle lane. But of course, not very many people followed those guidelines πŸ˜›

We found a lot of amazing places to eat! One of my favorite menu items was the oxymoron. “One oxymoron for breakfast, please!” πŸ˜‰

Of course, we had to have cheesecake while we were in NYC! We went to Eileen’s Special Cheesecakes. Oh my gosh, they were delicious! πŸ™‚ The storefront was under renovation but an employee was sitting outside with an adorable makeshift menu! She’d take orders and then grab them from the kitchen and reappear instantly with the cheesecake and change! Loved it! πŸ™‚

I got to see NBC Studios, which was awesome! Wish I could’ve taken a tour though.

Found a pretty butterfly mural by Kelsey Montague:

Had a super yummy dinner of wine, cheese and meats at Casellula:
I ordered a sparkling shiraz. Super different, but yummy nonetheless!

Saw Little Italy:
I had gelato and went into this Christmas shop hahaIMG_8606

And I was as giddy as a child in a candy store when we went shopping in SoHo. Why? I FOUND BIRCHBOX! πŸ˜€
IMG_8628 IMG_8625It was totally the best day ever πŸ˜‰

Overall, the trip was all kinds of crazy!

+I went shopping in SoHo and saw 5th Ave shops in person πŸ™‚
-It was so hot, I was basically consistently sweating all day, every day
-The heat made me wonder if I could ever comfortably live in NY. It’s not just that it was hot, it was the humidity. I’d prefer dry heat over being sweaty all the time. Blech!

Next time in NYC:
+I need to go back to Fashion Week ❀
+I need to go back to SHOP! Can we say, I’m so going to get my hair and nails done at Birchox one day? & SoHo & 5th Ave? Hello! πŸ™‚
+I need to go stuff my face with amazing food! Macarons, croissants, wine…etc
+I need to figure out the subway system. It is a goal of mine!
+I need to walk from one end of Central Park to the other
+I need to find Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment and take a photo on the steps
+I need to go to every iconic Sex and the City and Project Runway place I can find!

Oh, someone go to NYC with me! πŸ™‚
