I was super excited to read Vera Brosgol’s Anya’s Ghost, and it was definitely a bit different than books I’m used to reading.

So I bought this book on my Kindle, not knowing it was a comic book! I loved it anyway, though!
This book is about a girl named Anya, who runs into a ghost when she falls down a well. Anya and her new ghost friend get along OK at first, and then things get interesting.
Anya is a girl who is self-conscious about her looks. She tries her best to fit in at school and that’s basically all she wants. This ghost friend of hers comes into her life to teach her a lesson or two.
Anya learns to appreciate everyone in her life. She learns not to judge a book by its cover, and she learns that she shouldn’t be ashamed of her culture or family.
This book was funny at first, then got super entertaining, and then got really spooky, and then really sweet. So weird, right? Haha I’d recommend it to others. I’m not sure how old children should be when they read this book, though. Anya was in high school, yet the fact that it’s a comic book makes me think this book will attract a younger clientele. Well, either way, it’s a good book. It will teach readers some great lessons in life.
If I had to do it over again, I’d buy the physical copy of this book, because I think the comic would be best read that way. It was a bit difficult to navigate on my Kindle Paperwhite.
