No, this detox isn’t a juice cleanse. I used a bamboo charcoal deodorant to detox my pits and I wanna tell you all about it.
I found the Kaia Naturals Takesumi Detox bamboo charcoal deodorant and was immediately intrigued.
^This one I purchased is the travel size. I chose the smaller size (.42 oz.) vs. the full-sized product (2.29 oz.) because
I wasn’t sure how my body would react to it and I wanted to be sure I’d like it, so sample sizes FTW!
*Note: Yes, the deodorant is gray, but no it won’t go on gray or dry gray on your skin.
This was a great size because it fit in my gym bag and my makeup bag perfectly.
I made the switch to using natural deodorants a couple months before I tried this detox. I made the switch because I became more aware of the ingredients in my skincare products.
I’d never used charcoal for my underarms, so I was indeed intrigued by this deodorant. Apparently the activated charcoal is what helps rid the toxins from your body. What toxins? Well, a majority of mainstream deodorants have aluminum in them. This conversation is for another day. I figured I had nothing to lose, and I also wanted to see if it could really mask my body odor.
Did you know there are detox stages? I’ve never done a detox before so I had no idea. The charcoal pit detox stages are listed here.
This deodorant lated me 4 weeks, which is great because the detox stages outline four weeks.
I’m sure the detox stages changes per person since our bodies are all different. I’ll tell you about mine.
BEFORE: Sweaty, as usual. Mind you, I live in NY and it’s humid in the summer.
WEEK 1: I felt normal, but also really sweaty.
WEEK 2: I still felt sweaty, but I also wondered if the scent really worked because I felt that I smelled like B.O.
WEEK 3: So, so sweaty. STILL. This time I really thought I smelled like B.O. all the time. I carried the deodorant with me not only to the gym, but with me in my purse throughout the day. I definitely re-applied more than once. I guess I was expecting that typical deodorant scent. You know what I’m talking about. That’s not what you get with many natural deodorants, this one included.
WEEK 4: My sweat died down. I felt like I wasn’t smelling as bad, either.
AFTER: Not as sweaty, surprisingly. Although once this detox ended, I also finished using up the deodorant and am now using a different brand of natural deodorant.
I haven’t decided if I’ll re-purchase this deodorant yet. The full-sized product is pricey ($21) and I’m not sure I’m ready to shell out that cash for it just now.
I can’t tell you if it “worked” or not. I’m not sure if I feel any different now compared to before I stared using the deodorant.
I think what I’ll really do is just try a new natural deodorant. Suggestions?
